We are always fascinated by something that is extraordinary or has a magical touch to it. This fascination of ours has inspired the entertainment industry to create mind-blowing worlds, which could, otherwise, never exist, with the help of technology. VFX or visual effects are used by movies, television, and the gaming industry to create a larger than life experience for its viewers. Be it dragons flying in the sky, shape-shifting snakes, aliens, or our favourite superheroes using their magical superpowers, all of these are created with the help of the green screen.

Visual effects are used to describe imagery created, manipulated, or enhanced for any film or other moving media that cannot be made with live action shooting. The manipulated images are then integrated with the actual footage to create realistic content. The content is created by using a green screen or a background, along with certain VFX software. These software include Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, Adobe After Effects, Nuke, Mocha, etc.

Initially, VFX was created for sci-fi movies, but with its growing popularity, it has been passed to all other genre of movies. Even the television industry, marketing industry, and the gaming industry are adapting it for greater aesthetics and artistic vision. Though a relatively new concept, VFX has effectively captured the market. If we trace its origin, VFX was first used in the movie Tron in 1982. After that, there was no looking back, hit movies like Jurassic Park, The Matrix, Life of Pi, Inception, Avengers, etc., have only made its presence stronger. Avatar (2009) was a VFX masterpiece. It had great visuals which reflected the vivid imagination of the visualisers. The Indian film industry has also used VFX in various movies.

The VFX industry is growing rapidly due to the availability of low-cost internet, an increase in various games, and growing popularity of streaming videos. Globally, the VFX market is expected to reach $23,854 million by 2025.

With the world being digitalised in every corner, the visual effects industry has a great future ahead, transforming the virtual world into reality, creating impossible worlds where everything and anything can happen.
