GUWAHATI, Feb 4 � Speaker of the State Assembly Tanka Bahadur Rai today committed a gross mistake by going to resume the proceedings of the House immediately after its adjournment at 11-35 am. However, he had to adjourn the House soon after.
Today being a Jumma Namaj day, it was thought that going by the tradition, the House would have a recess between 11-30 am and 3 pm making it possible for the Muslim legislators to offer prayers in the mosques and then to resume the day�s proceeding in a quiet atmosphere. The agenda of the House for the day also marked the said period as recess hour.
But the alarm bells of the Assembly were made to ring at 11-45 am. The dispersing members soon returned to the House anxiously.
The Speaker entered the House at 11-50 am to be greeted by some of the angry legislators with the question as to whether they would be allowed to offer the Jumma Namaj. CPI legislator Drupad Bargohain rushed to the well to show the Speaker the day�s agenda which had a recess between 11-30 am till 3 pm written on it. The Speaker had to adjourn the House for the fourth time in the day at 11-52 am.
