SP Baruah�s bust unveiled

JORHAT, March 6 � A marble bust of Sashi Prasad Baruah was unveiled near the eastern gate of the Jorhat Stadium here today.

Sashi Prasad Baruah, popularly known as SP Baruah, was a noted tea planter who patronised the game of cricket in Assam with his personnel interest and effort. His son Madhurjya Prasad Baruah was a renowned cricketer of the State who played for the Indian school team apart from representing the Assam Ranji team on several occasions.

Well known sports organiser Nripendra Narayan Singha unveiled the bust in presence of Rekha Baruah, the widow of SP Baruah.

The bust has been installed by the SP Baruah Smriti Rakshya Committee and the eastern gate of the Stadium was also named after SP Baruah. Committee�s Dr Tapan Dutta, who was also present on the occasion, informed that tomorrow a SP Baruah memorial meeting will be held at the Jorhat stadium where a memorial book on SP Baruah, edited by Sanjib Sarma Thakur, will be released.

Journalist Premadhar Sharma will be the guest speaker on the occasion, informed Dr Dutta.
