South Salmara Mankachar dist celebrates Namami Brahmaputra

GUWAHATI, April 2 - South Salmara Mankachar district today joined the endeavour of the State government in celebrating Namami Brahmaputra in a befitting manner.

In this border district, river Brahmaputra has shaped the lives of the people in the true sense of the word.

The district administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Dr Karuna Kumari made adequate arrangements for the inauguration of the festival at Sishumara Ghat where MLA of Mankachar Motiur Rohman Mondal inaugurated the festival amidst much fanfare on Friday.

The people of the district came out spontaneously to celebrate the festival in a move to pay their tributes to the mighty Brahmaputra which has showered its blessings on the district and its people in several ways.

A photo exhibition was also inaugurated on the occasion depicting the several facets of the Brahmaputra and its life-giving prosperity. As part of the festival, a function was also held to pay obeisance to the Brahmaputra and a traditional arati to the mighty river was also conducted.

A colourful cultural programme was also held showcasing the rich culture of Assam vis-a-vis the district. A bike rally was another highlight where young boys and girls participated conveying the message of friendship and camaraderie in the district.

Moreover, synchronising with the festival, an exhibition of art, craft and handloom was also organised. Beach volley ball and other traditional sports were other attractions of the festival.

At the end of the session, an interactive session was held with the participants.
