GUWAHATI, Feb 26 - The South Guwahati West Water Supply Project, being implemented by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is ready for partial commissioning within the month of April. As part of this project, approximately 5000 households falling under the targeted area would be covered.
The much awaited water supply project, which is supposed to cover 4.45 lakh people after its completion and to be expanded further to cover nearly 5.83 lakh people by 2025, is undergoing a trial run currently.
According to sources in the GMDA, the laying, testing and trial run of the raw water pumping of the project would be completed by March 10.
In a review meeting, the contractors, Gammon India Limited, assured the GMDA that maximum effort is being put in order to expedite the progress of the work so that the target of partial commissioning can be achieved on time. Around 22,000 people would benefit through this partial commissioning. The pipe-laying work in the remaining areas of the targeted DMAs of the Kamakhya zone would be completed prior to the partial commissioning.
A detailed review meeting of the GMDA was also held recently under the chairmanship of the Chief Executive Officer of GMDA to ensure early completion of the trial run and also to ensure the partial commissioning on time.
