GUWAHATI, June 24 - Along with the global SOS community, SOS Children�s Village, Guwahati, also celebrated the birth anniversary of the founder of SOS Children�s Village, Dr Hermann Gmeiner, as SOS Day yesterday.

In SOS Children�s Village Guwahati near LGBI Airport, the celebrations began with the paying of floral tributes to Dr Hermann Gmeiner�s bust by the SOS Village community, followed by tree plantation and release of balloons for global peace.

In the evening, the main programme started with lighting of the lamp, followed by a speech on the philosophy of Dr Gmeiner and his lifelong passion for providing loving and caring home to parentless and abandoned children.

Children presented impressive cultural items which were applauded by the audience. The celebrations also included distribution of prizes to children who excelled in different fields of activities.

Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan of the Gauhati High Court was the chief guest on the occasion. Managing Director of Vinayak Honda Sanjay Lakotiya, Siju Sabastiam, Principal, St Joseph School, Azara, Sandeep Duwarh, Manager, CSR, Dalmia Group, and a host of other dignitaries were also present on the occasion, stated a press release.
