SOS Children�s Village, Guwahati to reach out to more needy children

GUWAHATI, Nov 17 � On the occasion of completion of 25 years of existence, SOS Children�s Village, Guwahati has decided to reach out to more needy children in the State through its myriad activities including its family strengthening programme.

Addressing mediapersons at the premise of SOS Children�s Village, Guwahati on Monday, S Sandilya, president of the Board, SOS Children�s Village of India said that the organization has overcome challenges over the years to ensure a life of dignity to parentless and abandoned children.

�The completion of 25 years of our Guwahati unit is a special occasion for all of us and we hope to receive continuous support from people to sustain our mission of providing a home, a family and a life of dignity to the children who may be devoid of roots. Our Guwahati unit has contributed immensely to the lives of many children and brought them up as responsible citizens of the country,� said Sandilya adding that children brought up in the SOS Children�s Villages across the country have been settled through marriage or career.

It needs to be mentioned that till date 4,500 children have been settled either through career or marriage and at present more than 6,500 children are growing up in 32 SOS Children�s Villages in the country.

On the other hand, SOS Children�s Village, Guwahati is looking after 155 children inside the village at present. Many children from this village have been successful in their respective careers and a total of 46 marriages have been solemnized so far since its inception.

�Family strengthening programme is another important activity for us as we feel that to improve the condition of children it is crucial to enhance the capacity of caregivers and the community,� said Sandilya mentioning that SOS Children�s Village, Guwahati is helping 529 children under the family strengthening programme by reaching out to 246 families in five villages of Rani block.
