Sonowal�s call to use IT to address problems

GUWAHATI, June 17 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the information technology department to list out basic problems faced by the people of Assam and use IT as a vehicle to address the problems.

Holding a review meeting of the department in his office in the State Secretariat today, Sonowal asked the department to take a lead to find breakthrough in using information technology for poverty alleviation and social transformation.

Sonowal said, �IT penetration in Assam should be enhanced to a level where people can claim it to be their fundamental right and in ensuring that the department should take a pro-active role to extend �fibre to home� facility to all households.� He assured all support to the department in achieving this.

The Chief Minister also advocated introduction of IT in school curriculum to infuse digital literacy in the State. He also emphasised that his government will take IT-oriented initiatives for bringing in transparency in governance and making the life of common men better, and providing technological solutions to the problems of the poor.

Sonowal directed the IT department to complete setting up of an IT hub in Guwahati. He also directed the department to prepare a �roadmap� in 100 days, conducive to attract investments for IT penetration in the State.

He also asked the department to take steps to make operational the services like �CM�s help line�, �Samadhan online� to help common men get their grievances redressed.

IT Minister Keshab Mahanta, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary VS Bhaskar and a host of top officers were present at the meeting.
