Sonowal visits Namrup, appeals for peace and harmony

NAMRUP, April 17 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Namrup on his first official visit on Saturday.

Arriving at this industrial town at about 5:30 pm, the Chief Minister paid his visit at Saranagar Botnamghar here where he was warmly welcomed with traditional gayan bayan and religious fervour amid a large gathering.

Addressing the people assembled there, Sonowal appealed to all to maintain peace, harmony, unity and brotherhood for the integral development of the State and the nation. He assured all possible assistance to modernise Namrup and to develop the three industries located here.

Thereafter, the Chief Minister visited Assam Petrochemicals Ltd here where he met party workers at its guest house first and then attended a brief meet with APL�s top officials at its conference hall. He was accompanied by Member of Parliament Rameswar Teli, five MLAs and Government officials. The APL management accorded warm felicitations to Sonowal, Member of Parliament Rameswar Teli and the five MLAs while APLOA, APWU and other local organisations too felicitated the Chief Minister. Earlier, APL MD Ratul Bordoloi delivered the welcome address.

The people of Namrup expressed their profound joy over the visit of the Chief Minister during Rongali Bihu celebrations.

Earlier, the Namrup regional committee of AJYCP celebrated the Rongali Bihu Adarani Utsav on April 12 with pomp and gaiety at its Swahid Bhawan premises.

The daylong programme comprised flag hoisting, smriti tarpan etc. A colourful cultural procession was also brought out within the Namrup township to mark the occasion.

After that a host of competitions like koni-juj, Bihu dance, dhol and pepa badan among small children, semonia husori, jeng Bihu etc., were organised. The day-long programme ended with a grand cultural night titled, �Bohagi Sandhya,� which was inaugurated by Palash Changmai, general secretary, AJYCP central committee. The performance of noted singer Kusu Koilash enthralled the audience.
