Sonowal visits model village at Jonai

JONAI, Oct 6 - The Member of Parliament (MP) from Lakhimpur cum Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the New Jelom Model Village in Jonai constituency and interacted with the local villagers.

The model village bordering Arunachal Pradesh falls under Kemi-Jelom Garm Panchayat in Dhemaji district and was adopted by the parliamentarian as a model village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) in 2013.

Addressing a public gathering at New Jelom Murong Ghor (community hall), Sonowal said that SAGY is a policy of the Central government for enhancing rural infrastructure of at least one village in each parliamentary constituency. �I selected the village as a model village observing its rich green heritage and other resources available in the locality,� Sonowal added.

Announcing some developmental initiative for the model village, the Union Minister urged the local villagers to work unitedly for successful implementation of the developmental schemes. He said, �Peace, communal harmony, non-violence and humanity are must to achieve development�.

The Union Minister announced a sanction of Rs 50 lakh under the SAGY schemes including renovation and modernisation of the village Murong Ghor, renovation of JN Sille Tribal ME and New Jelom LP School and construction of a weaving centre at New Jelom village. He also urged the administrative officials concerned to monitor the construction activities. Sonowal later held a meeting with the head of various departments in Jonai subdivision at SDOs� conference hall and reviewed various developmental activities.
