TINSUKIA, Aug 27 - Union Minister of State (Independent), Sports and Youth Welfare, Sarbananda Sonowal, visited the erosion-affected Dhola Hatighuli area on Tuesday.

Since the last several years, a sizeable portion of land in the area has been eroded by flood waters of the Brahmaputra.

The Central minister interacted with the affected people and took stock of the damages sustained by the flood-hit people due to the erosion. He also appreciated the efforts of the local people who were trying to check the erosion by fabricating bamboo porcupine barrages.

He said that he would urge the district administration to offer full cooperation as the initiative was only a temporary measure. The Union minister said that he would try to get a scheme worth Rs 363 crore sanctioned, which was formulated by the Brahmaputra Board and Water Resource Department at the earliest.

Sonowal was accompanied by officers of the Brahmaputra Board, Water Resource Department, district administration, etc.
