Sonowal, Rijiju included in Modi ministry

NEW DELHI, May 26 � Two faces from the North-East, Sarbananda Sonowal from Assam and Khiren Rijiju of Arunachal Pradesh are part of Narendra Modi�s council of ministry.

While Sonowal has been made Minister of State with Independent Charge, Rijiju has been given Minister of State status.

Held in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the swearing-in ceremony, attended by a mammoth crowd of nearly 4,000 invitees, was also attended by several Governors of the North-East besides Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his son Gaurav Gogoi, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalthanhawla, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and two other MPs. Several of State�s BJP leaders including the newly elected MPs also attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Talking to this newspaper, after being sworn in as a minister, Sonowal expressed his gratitude to the people of the State, his Lok Sabha constituency of Lakhimpur, and his party for their role in getting him elected. �I am particularly grateful to my village and my two elder brothers, who helped me all through.�

Sonowal said, as a Central Minister his prime objective would be to sincerely work for fulfilment of the aspirations of the people of the State, particularly the youth.
