Sonowal pledges to tackle influx, corruption

GUWAHATI, May 24 - In his maiden speech as the Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal today pledged to root out the problem of illegal migrants and corruption from the State.

�We are committed to do away with the foreigners issue and corruption,� the Chief Minister said addressing a huge gathering at the College of Veterinary Science playground at Khanapara here this evening.

He also opined that the new Government will lay special impetus on ensuring social security and balanced economic growth.

�This is a historic day and I thank the people of Assam for lending support in an unprecedented manner. At this moment, I also pay my homage to those who had laid down their lives in the interest of our State and society,� Sonowal said, after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam.

�It was in the interest of development that the people had voted us to power by a historic mandate. We are committed to live up to the hopes and aspirations of the people,� Sonowal said.

�I am confident that the people will extend their cooperation to the new Government and also give their suggestions,� he said.

Sonowal said that the new Government will frame its policy in the best interest of the composite and greater Assamese society.

�I would leave no stone unturned to make Assam as one of the top States in the country,� Sonowal added.

The function was also attended by several spiritual gurus.
