Sonowal lays laikhuta of Sabha session

TINSUKIA, Dec 6 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today laid the main post (laikhuta) of the pandal for the Bordumsa session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha at Ritupathar under Bordumsa Police Station. The session is scheduled to be held from February 1 to 4.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal appealed to the people to extend their cooperation towards the successful holding of the session. He also admired the role of the Sabha in promoting Assamese literature as well as espousing the cause of social harmony among various communities of Assam and its neighbouring States.

The Chief Minister assured that his Government would extend all possible assistance for the success of the Sabha session and said that he had already intimated the government agencies concerned to extend assistance in this regard.

The meeting was presided over by Prahlad Chandra Tasa, vice president, Asam Sahitya Sabha, and conducted by Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, general secretary of the literary body. It was attended and addressed by Rameswer Teli and Pradan Baruah, MPs of Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur respectively, and the MLAs of Tinsukia, Digboi, Sadiya and Margherita besides the office-bearers of the Tinsukia district branch as well as local branches of the Sabha and other dignitaries.

In the morning, the flag of the Sabha was unfurled by Prabin Bora, president of the Tinsukia district branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha. The smriti tarpan was offered by Basanta Kumar Deori, founder president of the Buridehing branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha. An all-religion prayer was also organised in the venue.
