NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 17 - Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal today laid foundation stones for three projects in his home constituency at North Lakhimpur.

At first, the minister laid the foundation stone of the Rs 6 crore sports project of developing a synthetic track turf at North Lakhimpur College. The minister also inaugurated the freshers social function of the college today. In the afternoon, Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the Rs 100 crore sports training facility under the Sports Authority of India at Lechai Gaon on the outskirts of North Lakhimpur.

Later he visited the historic Sufi shrine of Deka Fakir at Bilotiyagaon near here and offered a Rs 10 lakh to the shrine authorities from his MP fund. Sonowal also laid the foundation stone of a community hall inside the shrine complex to be built with this financial assistance.
