Sonowal inaugurates new roads, sports complex in Karbi Anglong district

DIPHU, June 24 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated a number of completed development projects at Diphu to mark the 67th foundation day of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council which was observed in a grand manner on Saturday by the council authority.

�Karbi Anglong including West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao autonomous district is a place of great potential and opportunity. The guiding force of the people of this area is their ethnicity, traditional values and tribal philosophy. Our governments at the Centre and the State are fully committed to the all-round progress of the hill districts along with the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys. Already within a short span, our government has accomplished a number of projects and others are on the anvil. We has set targets for infrastructural development in education, health, power, agriculture, communication, sports and youth welfare, welfare for the senior citizens, industry etc., and we are working to achieve those goals,� Sonowal said.

The Chief Minister inaugurated several new roads constructed with state-of-the-art facilities and a new sports complex. During his speech at the main function organised at Joysing Doloi auditorium, he announced that from July 2018 around 16 lakh senior citizens of Assam who have attained the age of 60 and do not have any proper income will be provided with government pension. Besides this, every needy unmarried woman who has attained the age of 40 will be absorbed within the pension scheme. He announced that within this fiscal year, 7000 km of roads will be constructed in Assam which also includes the total renovation of existing roads. To mark the foundation day, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council began the scheme of gifting scooters to health workers of the district. Hundreds of branded scooties were handed over to the beneficiaries symbolically.

Member of Parliament of the autonomous district, Biren Sing Engti, four MLAs of Karbi Anglong autonomous areas, the Chief Executive Member Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, Executive Members of the KAAC and government officials were present in the meeting. A number of awards were given to meritorious students, women and farmers on the occasion.
