GUWAHATI, July 30 - Congratulating the people of Assam on successful publication of the second and final draft of the NRC today, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal hoped that the entire process of publishing an error free NRC would be completed in similar peaceful manner.

Interacting with the media after the publication of the second draft, Sonowal reassured the people that there was sufficient scope for the genuine Indian citizens to get their names registered in the NRC and hence, there was no reason to panic even if they could not find their names in the second draft.

The historic document has been prepared under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court, with the help of the Registrar General of India in a fair and objective manner. We will carry forward the work as per the SC direction in future as well, Sonowal said.

On West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjees allegation linking exclusion of over 40 lakh people in the final draft to BJPs vote bank politics making Indian citizens refugees in their own land, Sonowal said that Assam was a peaceful State and response to both the first and final draft had corroborated this fact.

We wont let anyone destroy the peace of our State, he stated without naming Bannerjee.

He also appealed all quarters help in maintain mutual harmony and solidarity in State and desist from any provocative statement.
