Sonowal for quick filing of charge-sheets

GUWAHATI, March 28 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today chaired a meeting on law and order with Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of all districts through video conferencing at his conference hall at Janata Bhawan here, an official release stated.

The Chief Minister directed all SPs to ensure swift and correct filing of charge-sheets in all crimes against women and children so that justice can be provided to the victims. No criminal should be able to get away by taking advantage of the loopholes in law and that must be ensured by filing an accurate charge-sheet, he said.

Sonowal also directed the DCs and SPs to conduct intensive awareness campaigns with the active participation of students, teachers, NGOs, village heads (gaonburhas), village defence forces, panchayat members, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers and others to prevent crimes against children and women in all corners of the State. The Chief Minister also directed the SPs of all districts to personally monitor all such cases.

Issuing a directive to the DCs of all districts to ensure completion of repair works on embankments within a stipulated time frame through strict monitoring, Sonowal specially instructed the Jorhat DC to prevent erosion caused by River Brahmaputra at Neamati Ghat. He also directed the DCs and SPs of Dibrugarh and Dhemaji to ensure speedy completion of the Bogibeel bridge. Infrastructure development related to all national projects must be accorded top priority, he added.

The Chief Minister also directed the SPs of all districts to act strongly against drug trafficking and illegal syndicates.
