Sonowal credits Modi, Shah Fanfare at State BJP hq

GUWAHATI, May 23 - Supporters trooped in at the BJP State headquarters at Hengrabari here as the election trends came in indicating at a majority of seats coming to the saffron party. Party workers smeared green and saffron colours on each other, while caterers distributed sweets and biryani. Intermittently, groups of workers danced to the tune of Akou ebar, Modi sarkar � the State unit�s theme election song and shouted slogans in favour of the party and their leaders.

Many were hooked to mobiles inquiring about the latest trends in constituencies.

A pandal was erected on the office premises where a giant TV screen was installed for the supporters to get live results of the elections. Groups of people at tea stalls and other shops outside the party office were also seen discussing the results.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal arrived at the party office at around 6 pm and stayed there for about an hour.

Addressing the media and party supporters, Sonowal credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah for the overwhelming majority.

�When you do good work, you get good results. The honesty and dedication of PM Modi has yielded fruits. It is due to the changes the people saw in the last five years that they decided to repose faith in Modi and the BJP,� Sonowal said.

Also expressing gratitude to the voters, Sonowal said the election results will give an opportunity to follow the ideals of Modi to govern the State and establish it as a �powerful state� in the country.

Showering praises on Amit Shah�s election strategy and worker management, Sonowal also acknowledged the efforts of party president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, the allies of NDA and the party workers.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass also thanked party workers for the historic win and said the impressive results were due to the good work done by Prime Minister Modi in the last five years.

The Chief Minister felicitated singer Simanta Shekhar, who had sung the election theme song, with a gamosa. Simanta rendered a few lines of the song much to the excitement of the supporters who also accompanied him. The fanfare at the BJP office continued till late in the night.
