NEW DELHI, Oct 23 � Expressing his grief at the incident of food poisoning of prasad at the Majuli Island, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal has called for a probe by the State Food and Civil Supplies Department into the incidents of frequent food poisoning in the State.
Sonowal, expressing his inability to visit the food poisoning victims due to pressing engagements in Delhi, said in a statement that he has deputed a delegation comprising Lok Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, senior party leader Palit Bora and Hiten Goswami to visit Jorhat Medical College Hospital to take stock of the situation.
The Union Minister further said that he had spoken to the district administration and the Jorhat Medical College Hospital authorities to ensure proper treatment of the victims of the food poisoning.
According to reports, the number of persons affected by food poisoning in Majuli Island has gone up to 400.
The district administration has instituted an inquiry and instructed the Sub-Divisional Officer to probe the cause of the mass food poisoning in the world�s largest river island, Jorhat District Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Basant said.
Our Staff Reporter adds: According to an official press release here, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had directed the State Health Department to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report to him at the earliest. Gogoi also asked the Health Department to provide the best of medical care and treatment to the ailing patients admitted at the Goromur Pitambor Deva Goswami Sub-divisional 100-bed Civil Hospital in Majuli and at Jorhat Medical College Hospital.
He also directed Jorhat Deputy Commissioner to closely monitor the situation and to take appropriate steps.
