Sonitpur ready to welcome British royal couple

TEZPUR, April 9 - Amid election process in the Sonitpur district, the administration is all set to welcome Prince William and his wife Catherine at Tezpur airport here on April 12 with every possible security arrangement in place.

The district administration sources here said that the British royal couple who is coming for special visit to Assam with a focus on the culture and heritages of the region. They will land at the Tezpur airport at 5 pm as per the security arrangements of the Union Ministry of Defence and Home Affairs.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and other top officials of the State as well as the district administration here will welcome Prince William and his wife. From there, they will move on to the Kaziranga National Park camp at the Dipholu River Lodge located near Kaziranga. Besides other programmes, the royal couple will enjoy various ethnic cultural events, especially arranged for them and have an interaction with the mediapersons.

Next day at around 7 am, they will visit the Kaziranga National Park. Inside the Park, they will have a brief interaction-cum-introduction function with a few dignitaries and journalists.

They will be escorted by British Police Indian Security Force and accompanied by one publicity officer, two journalists, one Indian and one British photographers. At around 8.30 am, there will be an interaction session with the forest officials regarding the Kaziranga National Park and the threat faced by it over the years. At around 9.45 am, they will visit the Park in jeep safari.

On April 14, at around 6.30 am, they will leave for Tezpur airport and reach Gwuahati airport at around 8.15 am. After spending about 45 minutes at Gwuahati airport, the prince and his wife will leave for Peru.
