GUWAHATI, April 9 - Prasenjit Ghosh, who was recently transferred from the post of District Transport Officer (Licensing) of Kamrup (Metro) after his name surfaced in the illegal coal trade syndicate, was today arrested by Dibrugarh Police in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). He is currently posted as the DTO of Sonitpur.�
The arrest was made after forensic examination reports suggested that all the four answer scripts belonging to Ghosh were not in original form and the answers were written subsequently in the forged answer scripts.
With the arrest of Ghosh, the total number of arrests made in the scam rose to 44.
A team of Dibrugarh Police under the supervision of additional Superintendent of Police Surjeet Singh Panesar arrested Ghosh from Sonitpur when he was attending a meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner. Ghosh who appeared in 2014 APSC examination was appointed in 2016.
Sources informed that all the four answer scripts of Ghosh were printed in the printing set up owned by Rajib Paul, the brother of arrested former chairman of the Commission. Rajib Paul is still absconding.
Investigators probing the appointment scam divulged that a series of documents written and signed by Ghosh were collected from his office when he was the DTO in Guwahati and were sent or forensic examination.�
�We are bringing him to Guwahati and in all likelihood, he will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, Assam, tomorrow,� sources told his newspaper, adding that more arrests are likely upon arrival of fresh reports of forensic examination. Ghosh will be kept for preliminary questioning at the Special Branch headquarters of Assam Police at Kahilipara today.
Sources further informed that Ghosh could face arrest in connection with the illegal coal trade syndicate as well. The CID had already questioned him in connection with the case after which he was transferred.
