JORABAT, Aug 29 - Members of Dimoria AASU unit, joined by representatives from other organisations and general public of Dimoria, today gheraoed the Sonapur Police Station after a 10-year-old girl was found hanging at her residence in Digarupar area of Sonapur on August 25.
Local residents of Digarupar alleged that the girl had been killed after being raped, but an attempt was being made to give a suicide angle to the incident.
Locals further alleged that the police did not seem to be serious about investigating the case, prompting the Dimoria AASU unit and other local organisations and general public to gherao the Sonapur PS. They demanded a speedy investigation of the case and arrest of the culprit at the earliest possible.
Meanwhile, the girl�s parents, while talking to the media, asserted that their daughter has certainly been killed. �She was a very happy and lovable child and was too young to commit suicide,� they said.
Sonapur Assistant Commissioner of Police HK Gogoi said the police are waiting for the post-mortem report and if it is proved that it is a case of rape, then they would speed up the investigation.
