JORABAT, May 24 - Sonapur College has bagged 89th position in the Arts Stream category in the India Today MDRA Best Colleges Ranking-2019 and secured the top position among the colleges of Assam. This is an annual exercise of India Today for ranking the best colleges of the country. Sonapur College had offered to be judged for both BA and B Com courses.
During objective ranking, MDRA carefully attuned 112-plus attributes in each stream (performance indicators) to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons of colleges in their respective streams. These performance indicators were clubbed into five broad parameters like, Intake Quality & Governance, Academic Excellence, Infrastructure & Living Experience, Personality & Leadership Development, and Career Progression & Placement.
Established in 1991, Sonapur College has been offering space for the pursuit of higher education and has achieved academic excellence in the HS and undergraduate levels in both the arts and commerce streams. From the academic session 2018-19 the college has been granted permission to start PG courses in Assamese and geography by the Gauhati University.
Since 2015 the college has also been offering three skill-based graduate courses under Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) programmes: Retail Management and IT, Theatre and Stagecraft and Travel and Tourism Management under the DDU Kaushal Kendra scheme. From the current academic session the college is going to start another two more skill-based vocational graduate courses: Tourism Hospitality and Management, and Automotive Operations.
