Solidarity expressed with quake-hit in Manipur

GUWAHATI, Jan 8 - The Manipuri National Council (MNC) organized a mass prayer to extend support and express solidarity with the victims of the January 4 earthquake, which affected Manipur and parts of the North East, an e-mail received here stated.

The prayer meeting was held on January 6 at the Jagannath Fountain complex at the historic Manipuri Rajbari in Guwahati. It was attended by around 150 citizens. More than 50 Manipuri women, attired in their traditional dress, took part in the said programme.

Senior citizen and veteran social worker Dhan Kumar Singh led the candle-lit mass prayer meeting.

During the programme, N Babu Singha, president of MNC reminded the gathering about the historic relations between Assam and Manipur since the days of yore and called for unity and cooperation among the indigenous people of the North East.

Woman activist Roma Devi also appealed to the congregation for public support to the quake-affected people of Manipur in their hour of distress, the release mailed by Singhajit Singh stated.
