TURA, April 29 - Search operations by East Garo Hills (EGH) police today led to the recovery of another cache of weapons including the iconic 7.62 machine gun used by the deceased commander in chief of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Sohan D Shira.
The recovery made today was the fifth such recovery coming in about a month. The search for the hidden weapons has been helped by local residents of villages on the other side of Simsang river � a GNLA stronghold.
�We recovered one 7.62 machine gun, one 7.62 SLR assault rifle, one DBBL, one DBBL barrel, eight wireless sets, thirteen wireless set batteries, five primed IEDs in plastic containers, six twelve volt batteries for IED and five circuits for RC IED,� said SP, Ringrang TG Momin. �The machine gun recovered is one of the iconic weapons used by Sohan. There are many pictures of him carrying the weapon,� added the SP.
