Socio-economic, caste census begins in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, Jan 20 � Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has appealed to all Gaon- buras, chairmen and members of Town Councils and Village Councils in the State to extend full cooperation to census officials during the conduct of the Socio-economic and caste census 2011 which has begun on January 16 and will conclude on February 29.

In a letter released recently, the Chief Minister said the Census is being conducted with Urban Development and Rural Development departments as the Nodal departments, in pursuance of the Government of India�s decision to carry out the exercise covering both urban and rural areas in the country.

He pointed out that this exercise, in the aftermath of the population enumeration Census 2011 conducted in February-March 2011, is of vital importance in proper planning for undertaking all round development of the State and the nation.

Stating that the contribution of all concerned had resulted in bringing out true and correct data of Census 2011, he stressed that the successful enumeration and authentic data on Socio-economic and caste Census 2011 would further strengthen in visualising proper perspective for future developmental plans especially in formulating appropriate welfare programmes and ensuring its benefit by all sections of the people.

The Chief Minister further pointed out that, through the census, the entire population both in the rural and urban areas belonging to all religions, castes and tribes will be covered so as to ascertain the exact status of the living conditions of the people across the country. �The census enumeration will be based on the self-declaration of questionnaires and the entire exercise will be paper-less. In this regard, detailed instructions have already been given to the officials appointed as Enumerators/Data Entry Operators/Supervisors who will visit every household and enter the responses directly in the electronic Hand Held Device (HHD) especially designed and developed for the purpose.�
