Society must reach out to underprivileged: CM

GUWAHATI, Dec 3 � �Each and every one of us must come forward to help the underprivileged and marginalised segments so that they get a firm foothold in society, thus enabling them to eke out a decent living,� said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at a function �Suroor Enajori� organised by Prerona at Royal Global School in the city yesterday, stated an official press release.

Lauding Prerona for its commendable social service, Chief Minister Gogoi said it is the bounden duty of society to reach out to the underprivileged and marginalised segments. �We must espouse the cause of the neglected and deprived sections of society and give them the rights they deserve. They are not liabilities but assets to our society,� he said.

Releasing the book, Prerona Kabita, Gogoi hoped that the book would inspire and motivate the young generation to work towards the amelioration of the underprivileged and marginalised sections of society. �All out efforts must be directed towards improving the economic lot of the marginalised section. Towards this end, our Government will extend all possible help and support to the NGOs that want to help the underprivileged segments of society,� he said.

The Chief Minister said there should be concerted efforts towards providing the facilities to the differently-abled persons and opined that organisations like Prerona could play a pivotal role in this regard.

Expressing concern over women trafficking, Chief Minister Gogoi said that steps are being initiated by the Government in right earnest to tackle the problem.

Gogoi exhorted upon one and all to work for creating a congenial atmosphere to usher in all-round development of the State.

�Violence retards development. Peace ensures progress and prosperity. We must all live peacefully, happily and unitedly,� he asserted.
