GUWAHATI, July 23 � The third edition of the football tournament, organised by Brihattar Beltola Krira Bikash Samittee will be a north-east basis championship and will kick start at the Sarusajai Stadium from July 26.

Giving detail information about the tournament in a press conference here today, organising president Jayanta Boro revealed that they have invited teams from neighbouring states and four teams from Meghalaya have already confirmed their participation. Boro said that people of greater Beltola area are very much interested in the game of football and earlier there was a tradition of playing this game among the villages. To maintain that tradition they have started the tournament in the year 2009.

He further said, Director of Sports Sanjib Gohain Baruah is the person who inspired them to start this tournament.

The prize-money tournament is organised in memory of Joyram Medhi (champions trophy), Dhiren Boro (runners-up trophy) and Bhriguram Boro (trophy for third position holder). This year the organisers will provide Rana Baruah memorial trophy to the fourth team and Amal Baruah memorial trophy to the best disciplined team.

The champion team will take home a purse of Rs 50,001 while the runners-up team will get Rs 25,001. The third and fourth teams will receive Rs 12,001 and Rs 5000 respectively. Best player of the tournament, best player of the final, best goalkeeper of the meet and highest scorer will also get cash awards along with trophies.

The organisers have prepared a budget of Rs 2.5 lakh for the meet and majority of the fund is raised from the contributions of members and well-wishers, said general secretary Allen Boro. He also informed that 32 teams will take part in the knock-out tournament out of which 24 have confirmed.

Working president of the organising body Rajen Medhi and chief patron Balendra Mohan Chakravorty were also present in the press meet.
