Sobha Brahma�s death condoled

GUWAHATI, March 5 � Expressing deep condolence over the death of renowned artist Sobha Brahma, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that his death has caused an irreparable loss to the State.

In his message, the Chief Minister said that Brahma�s contributions towards the society, particularly towards development of art and sculpture would always be remembered with great respect.

A condolence meeting organized at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra remembered the developmental works done by Brahma during his tenure as a vice-president of the Kalakshetra Society. The meeting attended by vice-president of Kalakshetra Society Ratna Oja, secretary Saradi Saikia and other officials and workers of Kalakshetra prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The All Guwahati Students� Union, while condoling the death of Sobha Brahma, expressed its sympathies to the bereaved family members.

Bhadrakrisna Goswami, former president of Assam Sattra Mahasabha has also condoled the death of the artist. In his message, Goswami said that Brahma�s death was a great loss to the Assamese society.

The Bodo Sahitya Sabha would observe three-day condolence in honour of artist and sculptor Sobha Brahma from March 6, 2012, hoisting the Sabha�s flag half-mast at its central and district offices, mentioned a press statement. The Bodo Sahitya Sabha and the Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University observed one minute silence at the conference hall of Vice-Chancellor, Dibrugarh University as a mark of condolence.

Lawyers� Association, Guwahati has also expressed deep shock on the death of Brahma, a message from LAG assistant general secretary B Nath said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party also mourned the death of Sobha Brahma and called it an irreparable loss to the State.

Nilayananda Dutta, Rohini Kr Das and Sailendra Das, president, working president and general secretary of the All Assam Lawyers Association mourned the death of noted artist Sobha Brahma and prayed for peace and salvation of the departed soul.

The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad also expressed its condolence on the death of Brahma.

The All Assam Students� Union also deeply mourned his death. In a statement, AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharyya, president Sankar Prasad Roy and secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi said the void created by Brahma�s death will be difficult to fill.
