Smuggled Chinese garments seized

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - Customs officials seized another consignment of smuggled garments, mostly those made in China, from a mini-truck in the city.

Customs officials said the truck was intercepted at Sarabbhati while it was on its way from ISBT to Paltan Bazar.

The owner of the goods, who was accompanying the truck in a motorcycle, however managed to flee.

The goods were brought from Manipur in another truck. From ISBT, the owner hired a mini-truck to bring it to Paltan Bazar. The driver was apparently not aware as to where the consignment was being carried to, a Customs official said.

There were around 13 packets in the truck, containing garments worth over Rs 8 lakh.

During last month, a number of smuggled garment consignments from China and other South East Asian countries were seized by Customs officials here.
