Smriti, Nitin campaign in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, March 31 - High voltage poll campaigning by the BJP is continuing in Karbi Anglong district in support of its candidates. It may bay be mentioned here that today two Union Ministers � Smriti Irani and Nitin Gadkari campaigned at Diphu, Howraghat and Bokajan constituencies.

The HRD Minister, Smriti Irani campaigned for BJP candidates Dr Nomal Momin and Joyram Engleng at Bokajan, Dengaon and Howraghat. On the other hand, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari campaigned for Sum Ronghang at KASA stadium, Diphu.

While addressing thousands of people in the rally, Gadkari alleged that the Congress is pushing the state towards backwardness. Gadkari said that during 15 years of its rule, the Congress party never gave any importance to improve road communication, education, health and electricity.

Seeking support of voters, Gadkari assured to fulfil aspirations of people if BJP wins in the ensuing election.

Gadkari appealed to every section of voters to cast their votes in favour of Sum Ronghang.

On the other hand, the HRD Minister, Smriti Irani without taking the names of sitting Congress MLAs of Bokajan and Howraghat, attacked them categorically. The BJP heavyweight said that Congress ruled the nation for 60 long years but no development was seen in the North-east.

Criticizing the sitting MLAs of Howraghat and Bokajan, Irani said that public has given many chances to them but they have done nothing for the people and, instead, they have only pursued their personal interest. She further said that developmental works are yet to reach the poor people.

Despite Assam being endowed with natural resources, the Congress is pushing the state to the brink of backwardness, she said while adding that basic minimum necessities of the common man have not been ensured by the Congress government. Congress even failed to give insurance coverage to the poor and the poor have not benefited at all during the Congress�s rule, the HRD Minister alleged.

Irani said that five crore poor women of the nation will be given LPG connection free of cost and Rs 10 lakh each will be given to youths and women for business purposes.

Stating that the state is full of natural resources, she said that the Congress has failed to tap them. Despite having potential for tourism, the tourism sector has not been improved.

Moreover, no comprehensive steps for the improvement of road communication have been taken up by the ruling Congress government, Irani said.

Meanwhile, the HRD Minister urged every section of people to vote in favour of BJP for the state�s development. It may be mentioned here that thousands of people gathered at the rallies held at Diphu, Dengaon and Howraghat today.
