GUWAHATI, July 25 Union Minister for Human Resources Development, Smriti Zubin Irani has sought Chief Minister Tarun Gogois intervention for timely implementation of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the Mid-day Meal (MDM) and the Teacher Education programmes in Assam.

According to an official press release here, the Union HRD Minister, in a letter, sought Gogois cooperation and support for the critical initiatives for development of the school education sector in the State. The Union Minister pointed out that the first tranche of funds under SSA and MDM programmes for 2014-15 had already been released while others were in the process.

Irani also sought Gogois support and direction for completion of pending works, namely new schools, additional classrooms, girls toilets in schools, kitchen sheds and filling up of teachers vacancies under SSA in the State. The HRD Minister underlined the need for rational deployment of teachers.

She pointed out that Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was committed to setting up schools in Barpeta and Rangiya but was awaiting allotment of land from the State Government.

The HRD Minister lauded the adoption of many good practices, especially the unique system of a green-channel for mid-day meal fund release to the field which ensures that schools provide daily meals without interruption. This is a feature that we will recommend to other States as well, the Union Minister said.
