GUWAHATI, Oct 27 � The entire daily market complex at Sixmile, located by the Express Highway (VIP Road), was gutted in a devastating fire late last night.
The market complex housed a number of stalls dealing in vegetables, fruits, fish and chicken besides and grocery and stationery shops.
About 10 fire-tenders from various fire stations, such as Dispur, Beltola, etc., rushed to the spot but could not contain the fire which destroyed the entire complex. The firefighters, however, succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby shops and business establishments.
The cause of the fire was not ascertained till the filing of this report. The loss suffered by the business community could run into a crore, a local trader said.
