Six juveniles, two youths held in robbery case

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - In a disturbing twist to the robbery case at the residence of Dr Biraj Goswami, police has picked up six juveniles and two youths including the adopted son of Dr Biraj Goswami who is stated to be the mastermind in the case.

A gang of seven-eight youths mostly teenagers committed a daring robbery on Monday evening while Dr Biraj Goswami and his wife Dr Tulika Goswami were not at their Ajanta Path, Beltola residence. Their adopted son, who is a Class XI student, was present in the house along with a housemaid when the robbery was committed. A large amount of cash besides ornaments was looted.

Police said that Dr Goswamis adopted son who had earlier also stolen substantial amounts of cash from his parents hatched the robbery plan by engaging the eight teenagers and youths, including two petty criminals. Most of them were his acquaintances.

Shockingly, police said, Dr Goswamis adopted son had even instructed the hired youths to eliminate anyone who could try to thwart the robbery. The hired youths, however, were not agreeable to the proposition of killing and eventually it was decided that they would loot in the absence of Dr Goswami and his wife.

Police said that the plot came to light when police examined and tracked the call details of the adopted sons cell phone. An amount of over Rs 1 lakh has been recovered from the youths.

Two arrested youths have been remanded to police custody while the six juveniles are being remanded to the juvenile justice home.
