Six held for abductions, two rescued

GUWAHATI, July 11 - Following an operation launched by Guwahati Police in the dense forest of West Garo Hills in Meghalaya besides certain pockets in Goalpara and Dhubri, two persons, including a minor, were rescued from the clutches of their abductors in the last few days. Police also arrested six persons in connection with these cases.

While Md Farid Ali, aged about 9 years, was missing since July 2 from Fatasil Ambari, Md Amizur Rahman (49) was missing since July 4 from Panbazar area.

Police sources said that while Md Farid was rescued on July 8, police managed to rescue Md Rahman today.

The rescue operation was launched based on two cases registered with Fatasil Ambari police station and the Panbazar police station.

Those arrested in connection with the Panbazar case include Moinul Islam of Dhubri, Amzad Ali of Goalpara, Adbul Sattar of West Garo Hills, Jahirul Islam of West Garo Hills. Moreover, Mofijul Haque and Nur Islam of Goalpara were arrested in connection with the Fatasil Ambari police station.

Police said that the arrested persons are members of a criminal gang who executed the abductions for ransom.

�The operation was launched in coordination with Meghalaya Police besides its counterparts in other districts.
