Sivasagar Zila Maina Parijat meet concludes

GUWAHATI, Dec 31 � The eleventh biennial district children�s meet of the Sivasagar Zila Maina Parijat was organized on the premises of the Joktoli Higher Secondary School, Mechagarh, Sivasagar with a three-day programme from December 26. The event was held under the auspices of the Mechagarh Phulam Maina Parijat, a press release stated.

Child delegates from over 25 Maina Parijat units of the district took part in the meet that began on December 26 morning, with the welcome and registration of the delegates, followed by the inauguration of the delegates� camp and a tree plantation programme. In the afternoon, an exhibition-cum-book fair was inaugurated. The opening day also saw various competitions like painting, quiz, essay writing, etc., in different categories.

In the evening, the Lok Sabha MP from Jorhat, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa inaugurated the cultural competition among the participating Maina Parijat units. Earlier, Bimal Kumar Barua, Executive Director, ONGC Assam Asset, Nazira released a souvenir titled Mechlou in the function, where space scientist Dr Arup Borgohain from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was the chief guest.

The highlights of the second day were march past by child delegates, different sports events, a competitive exhibition, besides competitions on extempore speech, recitation, debate and chorus. The day�s cultural competition was inaugurated by Jayanta Pator, chief engineer of ONGC Assam Asset, Nazira.

The third and final day�s programmes began with a colourful cultural procession in the morning. It was flagged off by educationist and social worker Bapuram Konwar. The open session at 12 noon was inaugurated by Dr Mantumoni Dutta, vice president of the Sadou Asom Maina Parijat. The open session, where Dr Manoranjan Borgohain of Cotton College, Guwahati and Ratul Bora, general secretary of the Sadou Asom Maina Parijat, were the distinguished guests, was conducted by children invited from different Maina Parijat units of the State. It was followed by the prize distribution ceremony.

The evening�s grand cultural function was inaugurated by Sushanta Borgohain, MLA of Thowra constituency. The main attraction of the function was Sony TV�s Indian Idol Junior fame child artiste Priyam Borpatragohain who enthralled the audience with a bouquet of songs, the release added.
