Sit-in demo by TV producers

GUWAHATI, June 20 � Members of League of TV Producers� Association of North East India today observed a sit-in strike in front of the office of Additional Director General, Doordarshan at Guwahati protesting the delay in sanctioning of fund for North East Commissioned Programmes, 2013-2014 by the concerned Doordarshan authority.

�North East Commissioned Programme of Doordashan is funded under the Prime Minister�s initiative for North East Development Scheme and the Planning Commission of India has notified that this special package will continue in the 12th�Five Year Plan period from 2012 to 2017,� mentioned the memorandum submitted to the ADG, Doordarshan.

Other demands of the protestors included early notification for empanelment of producers and immediate steps to convert DDK Guwahati into a 24x7 Assamese digital satellite channel.

�The television industry of the NE region is mostly dependant on the commissioned programmes about 15000 families are directly or indirectly associated with this. In such circumstances, the authorities should take immediate steps to address our grievances,� said the league members. A similar protest action was also performed today at DDK Dibrugarh.
