Sit-in demanding review of Govts rehabilitation move

By ANN Service

JORABAT, Dec 5 - The Amri Karbi Autonomous Demand Movement Committee (AKADMC) today organised a sit-in protest in front of the Sonapur Revenue Circle office to protest against the State governments decision to rehabilitate 200 evicted families in Tegheria area of Dimoria.

The members of the organisation said that it is commendable that the government wants to rehabilitate the 200 evicted families, but it is unfair to rehabilitate the evicted families on the land where the local tribal people have been residing since Independence.

They urged the government not to take away peace from the indigenous people in the name of rehabilitation, as the people residing here are mostly farmers. They alleged that even after repeated demands, the State government has not made the land miyadi for the people.

Today, thousands of protesters urged the government to review its decision to rehabilitate the evicted families in Tegheria area and to make the land miyadi and provide patta to the people residing here.

The AKADMC also submitted copies of a memorandum to the State Forest Minister, the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner and to the local MLA of Dispur constituency through the Circle Officer of Sonapur Revenue Circle.

The protesters also shouted slogans against the government and threatened economic blockade if their demands are not fulfilled.
