Singhvi stays away from Parliament

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, April 24 (IANS): After giving up his position in a parliamentary committee and the Congress party over an alleged sleaze CD, Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Manu Singhvi also chose to stay away from the parliament as the budget session resumed Tuesday.

The Congress leader, who was allegedly caught in a CD in a sexual act, was absent from parliament after he gave up key posts fearing opposition to raise a storm in the session.

He was the Congress spokesperson and was also heading the parliamentary committee on law and justice, the positions from which he stepped down Monday.

Singhvi said he did so to "avoid further damage to the party's image," adding that "all allegations are patently baseless and false".

Meanwhile, party sources say that Singhvi is also likely to lose his party posts including that of AICC's legal and human rights department.
