Singapore Zoo curator in city

GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - Singapore Zoo curator Juan Carnejo today held discussions with officials of the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden regarding possible animal exchange proposals.

State Zoo DFO Tejas Mariswamy told this newspaper the Singapore Zoo officials evinced interest in the pygmy hog and greater adjutant stork. The State Zoo here is the only facility in the world to house the pygmy hog.

The State Zoo authorities expressed their interest in getting a giraffe. Exchange of a few birds is also on the anvil.

�Once the Singapore Zoo officials return and discuss the proposals with their higher-ups, they will get back to us with the final proposals,� the DFO added.

The State Zoo here has over 1,100 inmates, but lacks some basic attractions like the giraffe and chimpanzee.
