Silver jubilee function held at Moirabari College

MORIGAON, Nov 18 - The silver jubilee celebration of Assamese (Major) Department of Moirabari College was held at the college premises on November 14.

The programme started with flag hoisting byDr Samsuddin Ahmed, Principal of Moirabari College with the song O, Mur Apunar Desh.... The open function held on the occasion was presided over Dr Samsuddin Ahmed, Principal of the college. Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Dr Angshuman Das, Head of the Assamese Department said that his department had produced a good numbers of graduates and post-graduares during the last 25 years who contributed a lot to the field of Assamese language and culture. His student Abida Sultana secured First Class 8th position in the MA examination under GU in 2000. The department published as many as 28 valuable books which are a treasure trove for Assamese language and literature, Dr Das added.

Releasing the souvenir, namely Lali published on the occasion, Dr Ramesh Pathak, former Professor of Cotton College said that Assamese nationality is based on Assamese language not based on any religion. He appealed to the students� community to learn and propagated correct Assamese language for the healthy growth of Assamese nationality.

Speaking on the occasion, noted journalist Upendra Borkotoky said that Assamese language and literature was enriched by all the communities of Assam irrespective of their religions, so there is no threat to the Assamese language and culture.

Addressing the gathering, Maneswar Deori, noted researcher of Tiwa language said that Assamese nationality cannot be fragmented in the name of religion. The new generation must know that we have a heritage of exemplary communal harmony in Assam and that must be taught in our educational institutions.

As many as five books written by Dr Angshuman Das were released by several distinguished guests. Jahangir Alom, a student of the college enthralled the audience with Borgeet of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva.
