By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 5 - In view of Rongali Bihu, a Silk Mark expo got under way today at the NEDFi House here. Pure silk products from Assam, Bihar, New Delhi, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, West Bengal and a few other States are being displayed for sale in the expo that will continue till April 9.

A total of 44 authorised users are showcasing different pure silk products affixed with silk mark labels, which are a mark of authenticity.

Other than giving the visitors a chance to experience pure and premium silk items, the expo would also offer them the silk testing facility so that the consumers can reconfirm the purity of products and re-affirm their faith in silk mark.

Further, Vanya Silk (Muga, Eri and Tasar) products are also being showcased to generate awareness about the new possibilities of Vanya Silk product development.

Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI), the organiser of the expo, has been working for protecting the interest of the sericulture farmers, weavers, entrepreneurs and designers on one hand and the consumers on the other, safeguarding the purity of silk.

Since 2004, the SMOI has been involved in generating awareness on pure silk. At present, there are more than 4,000 authorised users of silk mark and over 3.20 crore silk mark labelled products in the market.

The labels are not only a mark of purity but also to inspire confidence in the buyers to purchase only the silk mark labelled products while buying silk, thereby increasing the demand for pure silk benefiting the sericulture farmers and other stakeholders.
