KAZIRANGA, Dec 4 - The fourth Silk and Dye festival will be held in Kaziranga from December 7-15. The festival has been organized by Janambhumi Janakalyan in association with YSCD and Earth Craft.

Addressing mediapersons, Barnali Sarma , secretary of Janambhumi Janakalyan said that the festival is aimed at creating awareness among the people about exquisite eri and muga products of the State. The nine-day festival will have a series of programmes and workshops to be attended by experts working in the field of natural dye.

According to Sarma, a meeting on silk farming and rearing of eri and muga will be held on December 11 in which farmers associated with the handloom and handicraft industry will take part.

She added that the demand for eri and muga garments has been increasing in the global market, and, therefore, the organization has been trying to woo the farmers to capture market by applying natural dye.

We are also in touch with the buyers in order to establish a market linkage, she claimed.

While presenting a rosy picture on the eri and muga market, Puberun Sarma, an expert on natural dye, said that eri and muga clothes made in the State has a huge demand in various markets, but the farmers have not been able to reap the benefits owing to lack of linkages.

Around 22 stalls will be set up from the States like Meghalaya, Sikkim and Manipur.
