GUWAHATI, Jan 24: Silchar stormed into the semifinal of the RG Baruah Inter-district Under 16 Cricket Tournament by virtue of their first innings lead against Tezpur in the semifinal match played at Barpeta District Sports Association playground in Barpeta today.

On the second day of the two-day match, Tezpur were all out for 182 in 71.3 overs after resuming their batting at 135/5 in their first innings. Abhijit Bhadra scored 32 in 63 balls and Sanjay Mahanta chipped in with 25. For Silchar Abhishek Deb picked up 4 wickets for 51 and Biki Roy took 3 wickets for 15. Silchar had scored 202 in their first innings.

In the 2nd innings, Silchar were all out for 167 in 45 overs in the 2nd innings. Abhishek Deb scored 68 off 73 balls which included 12 hits to the fence. For Tezpur, Derhasa Boro shone once again and returned with the figure 17-4-53-5. The left arm medium pacer’s match haul was 13 wickets for 130 runs. Abhijit Bhadra also picked up 5 wickets for 10 runs in the 2nd innings.

Now, Silchar will face Northeast Frontier Railways Sports Association (NFRSA) in the final of the Assam Cricket Association organised tournament on January 27 at the same venue.
