Silchar tense over killing of minor

SILCHAR, Dec 6 � One Shahdag Hussain Mazumdar (10) was kidnapped and later murdered in the house of Dulu Roy at Link Road here last night. Following the incident, irate public ransacked the house of Dulu Roy and also set fire to Sharma Hotel owned by Dulu Roy and another shop nearby in the area.

Police personnel and CRPF had to be deployed to control the situation. Later, Section 144 was clamped in the entire town.

As per information received, Raju Laskar, a mason, was working for a few days in the house of Dulu Roy. After returning from school, Raju met Shahdag while he was taking snacks. Shahdag knew Raju for some days as he worked in their house. Raju requested Shahdag to come with him and he took him to the house of Dulu Roy and murdered him later.

After murdering Shahdag, Raju telephoned the residence of Shahdag that his body was found in the house of Dulu Roy. At the same time Raju also telephoned Dulu Roy informing that a body of a minor was found in his house and asked him to come immediately. After that Raju fled the scene. As the message spread, the public enraged by the killing of an innocent minor set on fire many shops in the midnight. Meanwhile the police arrested the culprit in Badarpur area.

The police personnel and district magistrate rushed to the spot and asked the people not to take the law into their hands. Today morning, all the shops were closed in the area. The town wore a deserted look throughout the day. The roads were also mostly empty with only a few motorcycles, autorickshaws and rickshaws venturing out.

The public transport was partially absent.
