We need more local trains, including intercity express for Guwahati and Agartala, from here which will help more passengers.

Lumding division DRM Ram Bahadur Rai said that improvement of the station was a priority and work to transform the station will be done in the next six months. Two lifts, 12 platform centres, one foot overbridge will be constructed and the waiting hall shall be renovated. An approximate amount of Rs 8 crore will be utilised for the infrastructure development. PAC member Amaresh Roy and other officials and dignitaries attended the meeting.

Later, interacting with the media, the NFR general manager said IRCTC would be contacted for starting food facilities at the Silchar Railway Station and measures would also be taken for starting similar services at Haflong. We understand that passengers travelling on this route encounter problems like unavailability of food on the trains. Hence, steps would be taken along with IRCTC to resolve the issues. We shall also enhance security arrangements at the Silchar station for safety of passengers, the general manager added.

On being questioned about alleged instances of corruption in the sale of Tatkal tickets and some employees being caught red-handed, Sanjive Roy, said, Indian Railways does not encourage any corruption. If the allegations are found to have logical evidence, the guilty shall be punished as per provisions.

Responding to a comment made by the Silchar MP on Imphal and Aizawl-bound Rajdhani Express trains via Silchar, the general manager said that if there was sufficient demand from the people of Silchar, there was no reason why Rajdhani Express trains cannot be connected through this place.
