SILCHAR, March 22 � A direct contest between the Congress and the BJP is expected in Silchar LAC this time, where Susmita Dev (Congress) is pitted against Dr Rajdeep
Roy of the BJP. There are candidates from other parties, besides independent candidates.
Susmita Dev, an advocate by profession is the youngest daughter of ex Union Minister Santosh Mohan Dev and sitting MLA of Silchar Bithika Dev. She has a strong
political background as her forefathers have been the political arena since a long time. She is presently the chairperson of Silchar Municipal. It must be noted that
the Silchar Municipal Broad passed through a crisis prior to the declaration of election. However, she was able to retain her seat due to her strong political
background. Now she is in the race for the MLA for the development of people of Silchar town, as She said in a public meeting.
Dr Rajdeep Roy, an MS in orthopaedics is the son of former MLA of Silchar town late Bimalangshu Roy. Sources said that he does possess a car rather he is campaining
bike and other means. Rajdeep�s father late Bimalangshu Roy was as MLA for two terms and had done many development works in the constituency being in the
Opposition.
Susmita does have a strong political background but her mother , Bithika Dev, who is the sitting MLA in from this constituency had shown very low performance,
the people said. As the chairperson of the Silchar Municipal Broad, she has done many development works as an MLA her performance was low.
