Silchar force Lakhimpur to follow on

MANGALDAI, April 11 � Silchar is at the doorstep to clinch the title in the JK Barua U-19 Inter District Cricket Tournament. On the opening day of the two-day final at the Mangaldai Stadium here today, piling up a commendable 256, Silchar skittled out Lakhimpur for a paltry 33 and were to forced follow on. In the second innings, Lakhimpur were eight for no loss in their second innings and still need 215 to make Silchar bat again. The opening day belonged to Rahul Singh, the slow left arm bowler for Silchar who in his 12-over spell captured nine Lakhimpur wickets giving away just eight runs. Only Rubul Gogoi (16) could move into the double figures for Lakhimpur. Earlier, riding on the strokeful hundred from Abhishek Thakuria (116 off 112 balls, 4x18, 6x3) and a patient half century from Binay Krishan Saha (58 off 131 balls), Silchar reached the comfortable total.
