Sikkim oldest monastery in a dilapidated state

By Correspondent

GANGTOK, Aug 26 Sangha Dorden Dubdi Monastery, one of the oldest monastery of Sikkim, which was founded by Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo in the early 17th century is in a dilapidated condition.

The present plight of the monastery is such that regular prayers are performed outside the monastery in a temporary makeshift shed. Even the last years devastating earthquake has badly damaged it.

Sonam Lama (Kaloen), president of the National Sikkimese Bhutia Organisation visited the monastery recently and physically inspected the site. The monks present there requested Lama to take up the matter with the Government of Sikkim for withdrawing the monastery area from the purview of the Archeological Survey of India as it has been hampering the monasterys activities including its rituals, prayers, prayer-flag hoisting, etc. It is very unfortunate that no repair works of the monastery has been undertaken, he said.
